What Is A Domain Name And What Do I Do With It? By Jeanne Lovely

Beginning a new business is an exciting adventure, and choosing the company's name is one of many decisions that the owner(s) need to be made. This is no different when beginning a business on the Internet. On the Internet, you want a name, more specifically a domain name, which represents what you have to offer to the Internet community.
As you are learning the ins and outs of Internet marketing, there are a number of different things that you will need to do such as creating your website, building your contact list, and advertising. Everything you do will need a name associated with it that is all inclusive and represents everything you have to offer. This process seems easy enough, but it is quite difficult because once you chose the name it can't be changed.
What creates the name?
What is a domain name that has everything to do with your Internet business? It is a fabulously fantastic name that is catchy, easy to remember and relates to what is on your website. The name can be a combination of letters, numbers and symbols. The name can be one word or it can be a number of words; although the shorter the name, the easier it will be to remember.
It is also very important to keep in mind when creating your business' name that it shouldn't be offensive or conflict with logos, mottos or trademarks of other companies. If your name may refer to another company, the domain name registrar will not allow the name to be used. Besides, you don't want to take something of another company without their permission; otherwise you may find yourself in court.
It's Taken? What!?
You may already have a name that you want to use,but before you can use it, you need to make sure that it hasn't already been taken. You can search the Internet (using your Internet browser) to see if it already exists or you can check with a domain name registrar. Keep in mind that if the.com extension has been taken you can try.net,.org, or.biz just to name a few.
So you check it out, you enter your name and it's taken! Don't worry, just play around with how it's written; just remember to keep it as close as possible to your original design. You could, however, if you really want to keep the same name, add dashes between each word. This allows you to keep the name you want.
Finally, the Perfect Name
Now that you have the perfect name chosen and it's been registered, you need to have your website hosted on a secured server; which in turn presents your domain name when a particular search matches up with your website. This is an exciting time because it means that you are almost to the time when you can launch your site. You have worked hard but it's not over yet. There is still a lot of work to do, but it's all downhill from here; have fun and best of luck to you!
