7 Tips To Drive Traffic To Your Website

Hey so I thought I would just do a quick article about basic traffic generation to help out you guys that are stuck with it. Because ultimately without any traffic you aren't going to make any money.

Traffic Tip #1: PPC

If you haven't heard of PPC, well you should have. PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising is a sure way to get traffic to your site, and you only pay for what you receive, which works. The only thing I would say about PPC is that you should be careful with your targeting; you don't want to target the entire planet for a keyword like 'pet shop in London' for example, it's clearly pointless. I know that's an extreme example but you get the point, I hope.

Traffic Tip #2: Writing Articles

Articles are a great way to get traffic. There is a ton of article submission sites out there but the largest and in my opinion the best is EzineArticles. If you haven't been over and checked it out, do so as soon as your done reading this. This is a great place for information and also I believe you can use any of the articles wherever you want, as long as you leave the authors name and link in. So you can see how they get their publicity from the articles, Ezine also has a lot of direct traffic that is there simply to read the articles. Provided you write good articles you can also get really good click through rates on here- definitely worth a try.

Traffic Tip #3: Think Old School

Think back to basic advertising, yes your business is based online but what about offline advertising. You would be surprised at some of the deals you can get.

Here's some ideas to get the ball rolling:

1. Get some business card's printed up with your URL prominent.

2. Print some flyer's.

3. Pay for an ad in your local newspaper or larger, depends on your budget.

4. Be creative, get your URL printed on pens, rulers, golf tees, note pads...etc.

5. Try and get a stand at a job fair if your site is relevant to making money.

6. Tell people about your site and even ask them to tell others, relatives are good for this.

7. Sponsor something; it doesn't have to be something massive, a local event perhaps?

8. Write a letter to your local paper with your URL and website name, you'd be surprised at the amount of people that get traffic this way.

Traffic Tip#4: Organic SE Traffic

Organic traffic from search engines is perfect, mainly because it will be highly relevant to your site and best of all it's free! Now this can be a tricky one to achieve and is a HUGE subject in itself known as SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). You will find massive amounts of discussion about this, just Google it, you'll soon see what I mean. We will be writing a lot more about SEO in the future, so stay tuned for some great advise about how you can get in the search engines and get your cut of free traffic. For now though I would just say that you should make sure you have your main keywords in your URL and in your site name. Also do a keyword search on Google's keyword tool and use the keywords they suggest to be associated with the keyword you searched for; these (LSI) keywords should be scattered throughout your site, LIGHTLY- not too many or you will damage your chances of success.

Traffic Tip# 5: Update regularly

Especially in any niche that moves with time ie. Internet marketing sites, or stock market related site's. These should generally be kept a lot more up to date than say a 'how to loose weight' or something, which as a general rule would not need to keep up to date as the stock market example. This is simply because the stock market industry changes dramatically daily and weight loss as a general rule is, eat healthy and exercise.

Traffic Tip #6: Question Sites

Site's like Yahoo answers are great for finding people that have a problem. If you can answer/solve the problem/issue then you should give them a link to your site. This is a simple but effective way of getting traffic, can be pretty long winded though.

Traffic Tip #7: Add Your Site to Index's + Directory's

DMOZ.org is a great place for this. But you can find loads of these sites on Google, just search for URL submission or submit link or something like that, you will find a lot; you generally have to sign up to do so, for this I would suggest setting up another e-mail account, otherwise you will just get bombarded with a load of BS.
